 In the west of this central district Hanoi, across the rail tracks, some of the most attractive monuments occupy the wide open spaces of the former Imperial City, and it has grouped around Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum on Ba Dinh Square and extended south to the old enclosed gardens of the Temple of Literature.

A vast body of water complecatedly called West Lake sits north of the city, concealing a number of beautiful temples and shrines, but the beautiful villages that once enclosed it, have now largely given way to upmarket residential areas and a basics of luxury hotels.
