If you want to Vietnam to explore the bustling streets of Hanoi, the limestone stacks of Halong Bay, or the vibrant life of Ho Chi Minh City, you will first need to apply for a visa. The fastest, cheapest, and most convenient method to apply for the visa to Vietnam is to use one of the online methods: Visa on Arrival or E-visa.
Best options for a cheap Vietnam visa
1) Visa on Arrival (VOA)
The Visa on Arrival is appreciated for its fast-processing, low-cost and all-round convenience. This type of visa is applied for using the services of a third-party travel agent or tour operator based in Vietnam.
You simply need to complete their online application form and pay the relevant fee. After a wait of 2-3 days, you will receive an “approval letter” via email in PDF format which must be printed and taken on the flight to Vietnam. The actual visa stamp is received at the time of arriving at the designated airport in Vietnam.
However, this type of visa is only applicable for travellers that plan to enter the country via one of the major international airports. Travellers must arrive in Vietnam by air and arrival at the international airport in Danang, Ho Chi Minh City, or Hanoi.
It is important to note that the Vietnam visa on arrival is not a viable option if planning to enter the country via a seaport or land-border crossing.
2) E-visa
The next option to apply for the visa to Vietnam is the e-visa which is the latest visa application option and introduced by the Vietnamese government in February 2017.
This visa is relatively easy to apply for by completing an online application, submitting any supporting documentation, and paying the relevant fee. You can make the online application by visiting: https://immigration.gov.vn.
The Vietnam e-visa is issued for a maximum period of 30 days for the single-entry trip only.
If you're planning to stay in Vietnam for longer than the 30 days or wish to visit neighbouring countries (Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, Thailand) on your SE Asia tour, you will find the visa on arrival is a more flexible and practical option.
Visitors that obtain the Vietnam e-visa have the option to arrive in the country via seven seaports, 13 international land-border gates, or eight international airports, such as those in major cities like Danang, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
Also, the Vietnam e-visa is available to citizens from 46 countries, including:
Argentina, Armenia, Belarus, Australia, Chile, Hungary, Bruney, Bulgaria, Canada, Ireland, Colombia, , Czech Republic, Kazakhstan, Denmark, Greece, Finland, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, France, South Korea, Luxembourg, Mongolia, Great Britain & Northern Ireland, Netherland, Cuba, New Zealand, Norway, United States of America, Panama, Peru, Philippines, Azerbaijan, China, Russia, Uruguay, Poland, Romania, Myanmar, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Timor Leste, United Arab Emirates, Venezuela
3) Vietnamese Embassy
The final option to apply for the Vietnam visa is to visit a Vietnamese embassy in your home country, or elsewhere if already travelling. However, this is likely to be the most time-consuming and expensive option, but it will let you have the full visa stamp in your passport before travelling.
