Vietnam visa: Everything you need to know

In recent years, Vietnam has identified tourism as one of the key economic sectors in the national target. So, a series of programs and solutions are launched to promote Vietnam tourism and attract foreign visitors to the country. However, except for countries in Southeast Asia and some countries with bilateral agreements that are exempt from Vietnam visa on arrival the remaining countries need to apply for a Vietnam visa if they want to enter the country.

Let's list all things you need to know when applying for a tourist Vietnam visa.

Types of tourist Vietnam visa

Currently, Vietnam is issuing tourist visas with the following types:

- One month single entry: a visa that visitors only enter Vietnam 1 time within 30 days.

- One month multiple entry: a visa that visitors enter Vietnam many times within 30 days.

- 3month single entry: is the type of visa that visitors enter Vietnam 1 time within 90 days.

- 3 months multiple entry: a visa that visitors enter Vietnam many times within 90 days.

Countries are exempted from visa when entering Vietnam

For citizens of these countries, when entering the country, they need only present a passport with a term of more than 6 months to be stamped on the passport. However, visitors need to pay attention to the number of days exempted from visa regulations and the actual number of days visitors stay in Vietnam to avoid possible troubles. For example, some visitors are exempted from visa for not more than 15 days but the number of days staying in Vietnam is over 15 days, tourists need to apply for an invitation and can not apply for a free Vietnam visa. If the guest does not request an invitation, he / she will be fined with an amount corresponding to the number of days the guest stays over.

Below is a list of countries that are exempted from visa for 15 to 30 days when entering Vietnam.

While many countries in the region have flexible visa policies, even exempting tourist visas for foreign visitors, Vietnam is one of the countries that require guests to apply for Vietnam visas before entry. However, since 2017, Vietnam has implemented electronic visa issuance for citizens of 40 countries around the world. By 2020, after controlling the Covid19 epidemic, Vietnam will increase the number of countries that allow e-visas to 80.

The list of countries permitted to apply for electronic visas is listed below.

The issuance of e-visa with simple procedures follows the steps below:

Step 1: Fulfill required information:

• Upload foreigners' passport data page image and photograph (straight looking without glasses);

Step 2: Pay E-visa fee (25 USD). Your application will be processed in 3 working days;

Step 3: Enter registration code, registration email and date of birth to check result in.

* Note:

If there is any missing or incorrect/unidentified information, your application will not be accepted.

For travelers from countries that do not have a visa exemption or have not yet been granted an electronic visa, it is very easy to obtain a visa through local travel companies. However, you will have to pay a certain fee depending on the type of visa required for companies providing this service in addition to the stamp fee at the airport. Usually this cost is quite cheap and the payment is very simple via online payment gateways. However, to ensure the legality, visitors need to learn and choose reputable companies.

Visitors only need to perform a few simple steps to get the invitation. The steps are as follows:
